INTL: RAILTON & DOWNES

Lucy Railton & Kit Downes

This performance at INTL showcases the new material recorded in Iceland, which is released this summer. INTLJP: Cadotsch Trio / Westerhus

Lucia Cadotsch Trio

Berlin-based Swiss singer Lucia Cadotsch is one of the most creative young voices in jazz and is working with several bands of the progressive European music scene. With her trio Speak Low feat. Petter Eldh and Otis Sandsjö she announced her presence on the international scene with one of DownBeat’s Best Albums of 2017 and by winning the Echo Jazz Award for Vocalist of the Year.
Through a rare display of musical telepathy and a clockwork of ensemble work Speak Low is demonstrating how the strength of the original concept is providing a platform for further explorations.

Stian Westerhus Solo

Stian Westerhus is a Norwegian guitarist whose unusual playing techniques and experimental flair have earned him considerable recognition in the local scene. He records under his own name, improvising and exploring the possibilities offered by the guitar, and plays in the Puma trio, a band that combines noise rock with free jazz.

INTLJP: DLW TRIO / SPACE GALVACHERS

Dell/Lillinger/Westergaard

The Trio DLW combines energetic playing with structural composition in real time. The interaction results in high energy that materializes in different layers of sounds, relationscapes. Form comes into being through musical production. Thereby, the trio transcends the usual dichotomy of rhythm section vs. solo player.
Their recording GRAMMAR (released on gligg-records) demonstrates the trios specific structural approach to form making in manifold perspectives. Other projects include their collaboration with electronic musician and producer Johannes Brecht as DBLW, which is documented in their release “BOULEZ MATERIALISM” from 2018 (PLAIST 002). As Trio Followed GRAMMAR II from 2019 (PLAIST 006) and BEATS from 2021 (PLAIST 009)

Christopher Dell: vibraphone

Christian Lillinger: drums

Jonas Westergaard: bass

Space Galvachers

Stian Westerhus is a Norwegian guitarist known for his experimental style, explored with keyboardist Øystein Moen in the bands Jaga JazzistA trio whose “sound craftsmanship” and instrumentation create a natural alchemy between contemporary and traditional, acoustic and electric.
The first opus presents a repertoire that mixes refined melodies and textural improvisations, highlighting the group’s sound.
The heart of the trio’s approach to sound lies in their timbral research, whose suggestive power inexorably leads the listener on a bewildering journey, a subtle space between the known and the unknown: between sounds with “traditional resonance” that we know but that are not intact, and others that we don’t know but that seem surprisingly close to us.”and Puma.

Clement Janinet: violin

Clement Petit: cello

Benjamin Flament: percussion
